HINDSIGHT HELMET

HindsightHelmet2.JPG

Papier-mâché mask with internal camera and video monitor
2ft x 2ft x 2ft

A hybrid sculpture/performance/costume, meant to be experienced from the inside and the outside.  The participant wears the mask backwards. A tiny camera below the nose feeds to a video screen inside the helmet, giving the wearer a view of what is behind them.

This piece came from the thought that looking in one direction means looking away from something else. It’s dark and confusing in there, not seeing what’s directly in front of you.
